Strength & Muscular Endurance Explained

Strength muscular endurance refers to the ability of the body to perform repeated strenuous acts against a resistance within a long period of time. This ability is highly needed by any athlete who engages himself in sports such as boxing, running, swimming, cycling, or rowing.

The training involved in order to achieve strength muscular endurance can be intense which is necessary in order to meet the requirement which is to endure the resistance within a considerable long period of time.

Continuous training is very necessary in order to improve strength muscular endurance over time. As a person achieves a greater ability, he becomes capable of exerting stronger energy and greater endurance for resistance.

Types Of Strength Muscular Endurance:

There are three different types of strength muscular endurance. They are power endurance, long term muscular endurance, and short term muscular endurance.

Power endurance refers to the exertion of great efforts for the execution of powerful movements done within a relatively short period of time. Usually, the movement is executed within every 30 seconds or less.

Examples of sports or activities that require great power endurance are tennis and sprinter. The nature of these sports require the execution of movements that done after another within a short period of time.

The training involved in increasing power endurance is often characterized by the use of different power training methods. The training methods are mostly characterized by the use of moderate loads lifted for several numbers of times that range from 15-30.

During the training, the amount of time spent for resting and completing the set must be calculated. If an instance when a person has rested for only a short time and is about to complete another set while the muscles was on the stage of fatigue is repeated for several times, there is no chance of improving power endurance because increase of muscle size will instead result.

Short term strength muscular endurance refers to the exertion of efforts to execute the movements done within a time that range from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. This is considered advantageous on the part of athletes simply because there is a minimal chance of getting fatigue easily and there is high resistance towards high amount of lactic acid in the body.

To get trained for short term muscular endurance, a person must undergo continuous training with the use of light loads at a definite number of repetitions.

On the other hand, long term muscular endurance refers to the exertion of efforts for such steady movements that last for at least 2 minutes.

The training involved to develop this type of strength muscular endurance makes use of light weights. The resting period during the training are those when the athlete has to change the equipment to use. This is done so to make possible the quick increase of the said endurance.
